Capabilities of Windows Server 2022 RDS (Remote Desktop Services) enable numerous users to connect simultaneously and remotely view a desktop and apps. IT departments primarily use the Remote Desktop functionality for remote administration.

What are Remote Desktop Services?

In the standalone Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition, Remote Desktop Services was first offered in 1998 as Terminal Server, enabling users to connect from any location.

RDS is the method of application virtualization that is most commonly employed. This method displays applications to connected users. The program actually runs in a session on the server in the data center, even though it appears to be running on the local desktop. This method of deploying apps to a business is dependable and affordable.

Many businesses are switching to remote or at-home work options. Remote Desktop Services (RDS) ensures access to Windows applications as well as desktops.

Perks of Installing Windows Server 2022 RDS

The latest Windows Remote Desktop Services version is the Windows Server 2022 RDS. It has enhanced the capabilities of Windows servers. The ability to handle access licenses more easily is critical. Forwarding compatibility is another feature of RDS Windows Server 2022. As a result, even if a new version of the Windows server is released, you can continue to utilize this program.

  • Security levels for virtual machines have improved isolation now.

  • The SSO (single sign-on) feature ensures optimum safety with user convenience.

  • An optimized Windows Defender for running applications.

  • Now you can process graphics-intensive with a new technique.

Microsoft added new significant security features to Windows Server 2022, such as hardware root-of-trust, firmware protection, and virtualization-based security.

Secured-Core Server, which uses Windows Defender System Guard and Trusted Platform Module 2.0 to defend the hardware, firmware, and operating system from threats, is at the heart of the Windows Server 2022 security concept. The Secure Message Block (SMB) network file-sharing protocol is now encrypted by default to increase security.

Windows Server 2022 features

Microsoft deprecated the following functionality included in Windows Server 2019 and prior Windows Server versions with the launch of Windows Server 2022, either entirely or partially:

  • Internet Storage Name Service (iSNS): Microsoft ultimately made the decision to discontinue iSNS due to its concentration on SMB. You can still add specific iSCSI targets or connect to already-running iSNS servers.

  • Shielded VMs and Guarded Fabric: Although support will continue, further development of these features has been put on hold as Azure Confidential Computing and Azure Security Center take center stage.

  • Sconfig.cmd execution from a CMD window: Now, when logging into a server with Server Core installed, Sconfig is started automatically. Sconfig must be launched if you need to.
